"Yusei?" I whispered, unable to raise my voice. He nodded, looking relieved.
"Can you sit up?" he asked. I did as he asked. Once I had pushed myself into a sitting position, I looked around at my surroundings. Yusei was sitting in front of me and Kalin was kneeling off to the side. The three of us were in some kind of trench.

"What about you?" I asked. Yusei walked over to his duel runner and took his helmet from Nico.
"I'm going to take care of whoever's after us," he replied. When he saw my worried expression, his eyes softened. "Don't worry about me, Alice." The sound of the approaching duel runner grew louder.
"Come on, Alice!" Kalin yelled. "We're running out of time!" He grabbed my hand and quickly led me away from Yusei. Kalin, the kids, and I hurried back into the mines. I was confused, but I didn't question Kalin.
